The new Greeley West High School will be constructed on the existing site, situated between the 1960’s high school and newer existing athletic fields. The resulting position will place the new school at the heart of the current campus.
The project is a recipient of funding from the successful 2019 Weld County School District 6 Bond. Through the design process, specific Sustainability Goals were identified utilizing strategies from both the US Green Building Council LEED v4.1 Standards and Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) criteria.
Adolfson & Peterson Construction and Hord Coplan Macht (the AP|HCM Design-Build Team) were selected to lead the design and construction of the new school. A Design Advisory Group, composed of teachers, administrators and students, helped architects complete the preliminary site and school design in May 2020 with recommendations and feedback. The majority of the existing Greeley West High School will remain in use during construction with little disruption to the educational approach, cultural context and physical setting where the teaching and learning occur.
The Project scope includes the phased building of an approximately 280,000 SF new high school with the phased demolition of approximately 180,000 SF of existing facility, modular and other ancillary site buildings. In addition to new administration areas, classroom wings, a state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education (CTE) wing, new performance theater including music / drama spaces and new athletic wing including two new gymnasiums, the new construction will feature a safe, grand entryway and a Dining / Learning Hub with flexible seating. The two-story design, with ample windows for natural light, and outdoor learning and gathering spaces will enhance the student’s learning experience.
The new Greeley West High School is estimated to cost $120 million with expansion capacity to 1,800 students. Construction began in late summer 2020 and will be completed over the course of two development phases in time for the 2022-23 school year.
Wells Concrete was specifically selected as a D/B Partner because of its reputation of working with collaborative teams, implementing LEAN Construction practices and maintaining and exceeding project delivery goals.
Wells Concrete is contributing over 90,000 SF of precast concrete structural wall panels.
